Jamie Lee Curtis shares sweet reason she gave her Oscar statuette they/them pronouns

Jamie Lee Curtis won’t be able to be depressed from her current post-Oscars high.On the Today show in March, the Everything Everywhere All At Once star discussed her significant victory and what it’s been like to acquire a prized Academy Award. She also talked about how she would refer to her statue.

The desire for recognition and admiration for your job is a universal one, according to Curtis. “No matter what you do, you want someone to value you. And this is a really gorgeous, glittering expression of gratitude.”

The Everything Everywhere All at Once performer, 64, won her first Academy Award for the performance. Both my mum and my father were Oscar nominees in various categories, said Curtis. “I received an Oscar!”

She gave an emotional victory speech in which she expressed her gratitude to her family and everyone who has supported her “genre flicks” since she began her career in 1977. On the Today show on March 14, Curtis virtually joined Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie. There, she acknowledged that she was still in shock.

“I never in a million years thought I would have these couple days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing,” the speaker said.

When asked if she had thought of a name for the figurine, Curtis gave the lovely justification for her choice not to.

In honor of her 26-year-old daughter Ruby (Curtis revealed her youngest child was transgender in 2021) she would refer to her Oscar statuette as they/them.

“In support of my daughter Ruby, I’m having them be a they/them,” the actor said. “I’m just going to call them ‘them’, they/them, and they are doing great.”

“They’re settling in.”

Heartbreaking confession
A youngster coming out as trans comes with a steep learning curve, according to Jamie Lee.

“It’s speaking a new language,” she said. “It’s learning new terminology and words. I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it. And I’m going to blow it.

“I’m going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes,” she continued.

“You still mess up, I’ve messed up today twice. We’re human.

“But if one person reads this, sees a picture of Ruby and me and says, ‘I feel free to say this is who I am,’ then it’s worth it.”

Ruby has avoided the spotlight her entire life while descended from a Hollywood dynasty; she currently works as a video editor for a YouTube gamer.

“I knew Ruby had had a boyfriend. I knew that Ruby had used the word bi. But gender identity and sexual orientation — those are two separate things,” the two-time Golden Globe winner said.

Oh Jamie! We’re so happy you finally prevailed. It was long overdue and utterly deserving.
