I have vivid memories of that sunny day when I felt like I had everything under control. Our dog was keeping a close check on my happy and carefree kid as she played close to the home.
This dog, a seemingly peaceful and kind creature, was constantly around, a silent guardian, prepared to respond at the first hint of danger. I had no idea how profound this animal instinct would affect me or how significant this day would be.
The air was filled with a scream. With my heart racing and every second feeling like it would go on forever, I hurried outdoors.
I was astounded by what I saw when I walked through the door. My naive and carefree daughter had managed to scale the short ladder that led to our roof.
She was sitting on the slope with her legs dangling down and a happy smile on her face. She did not appear to realize the danger was close. Undisturbed and engrossed in the thrill of her discovery, she was giggling.
My legs felt like they were frozen, but I wanted to scream and run to her.
A miracle occurred at that same moment. I was unable to comprehend how it could have happened or even envision what was going to occur.
The dog, which had been quiet until that point, suddenly leaped into a quick motion and struck the ground with amazing force.
Its muscles taut like a spring about to burst, it leaped into the air with a single leap. It was now a protector rather than merely an animal. There was a strong instinct acting.
It positioned itself under the roof, just below my daughter, with incredible agility. It had foreseen every action, yet I hadn’t even noticed it approaching. Unaware of the danger, my daughter’s smile froze as she spotted the animal.
My heart was racing as I watched, paralyzed.
The dog made a last attempt to jump, seemingly to capture the air surrounding the girl and be ready to help her if she fell.
She slipped a little, but she was caught by something before the unthinkable occurred. She was miraculously snatched in mid-air by the dog.
My kid finally realized that she was safe in its strong embrace and that she was no longer in danger. The dog gave her a calm look before turning to face me, almost saying, “Everything is fine now.”
