My father-in-law approached me while my husband was at work and said he wanted to show me something in the bathroom. When I entered, I noticed cement and tile fragments on the floor, along with a plastic bag.
It was just my father-in-law and I at home. I was occupied with my regular housework after my husband had departed for work. A big hand suddenly touched my shoulder
The voice behind me was gruff and demanded, “Where is your husband?”
I pivoted. There stood my father-in-law. His hands were shaking and his face was white.
— At work, — I replied uneasily. — What took place?
— Hurry and use the bathroom. There, I discovered something. I believe your husband owns it.
My heart fell.
I muttered, “Is he… cheating on me?”
— No. You had better check it out for yourself, though.
I froze as soon as I entered the restroom. There was a broken wall by the sink. There were pieces of cement and tile on the floor, and a clear plastic bag was in the dust.
My father-in-law pointed at it without saying anything. I squatted down, lifted it up gingerly, and opened it.
With shaking hands, I stood in the restroom and opened the plastic bag. There was heavy metal inside. nor cash, nor jewels. A weapon.
The words escaped my lips: “Oh my God.” This is your son’s, right?
His eyes were filled with concern as he nodded.
Indeed. The worst thing isn’t even that.
I gazed at him.

With a heavy sigh, he sat on the bathtub’s edge as though he had lost all strength.
– He owes money. large ones. He has been concealing his issues from us, as I have long observed. And a man approached me a month ago. An outsider. “Your family will pay if your son fails to finish the task,” he warned me bluntly. Everyone, including his parents, wife, and kids. Nobody will be able to live in harmony.
I was freezing on the inside.

Slowly, my father-in-law bowed his head.
He was expected to work for these folks. Something really important. It’s best you don’t know the specifics since it’s that serious. And everything he holds dear will be destroyed if he doesn’t comply.
I dropped to the ground.
I muttered, “How did you know it was here, hidden in the wall?”
He looked up at me with weary eyes.

The room was silent. The world around me seemed to fall apart.
— And now? — I said, hardly speaking.
My father-in-law’s fists were clenched.
– We now have two choices. Either find a way out ourselves or remain silent and let him finish. But keep in mind that we shall all perish if they have even the slightest suspicion.
