A 19-year-old goth with black eyeliner smeared like shadows, piercings glinting beneath the stage lights, and edgy clothing. He sang hauntingly beautiful notes from a 1918 opera with unearthly strength and accuracy. Skeptical whispers died down, leaving the room in awe

Andrew De Leon seems like a typical goth. You won’t expect his loud voice, though. It’s the exact opposite of what I expected, so you won’t be expecting the pitch of his voice or the music he chooses.

Andrew had never performed live, not even in front of his loved ones or friends, and most definitely not in a packed stadium. It was therefore even more spectacular when he took the stage for his audition on America’s Got Talent in Austin, Texas.

As a child, Andrew was a big fan of Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. Even though he felt alienated, he found solace in listening to them. Although Andrew gradually developed a passion for singing, he had never performed in front of anyone, not even his relatives, until he went in for an audition. The crowd was amazed by 19-year-old Andrew’s outstanding performance of “O Mio Babbino Caro.”
