When the man was eventually released from prison after ten years, he went directly to his late fiancée’s grave, but as he leaned over the monument, he noticed something terrible. 
The man had been incarcerated for ten long years. When the police barged into his house and accused him of a horrible crime the night before his wedding, his life had come to an abrupt end. He became the main suspect after his fiancée disappeared without a trace.
No proof was found. No evidence. However, there were “witnesses” who claimed to have seen him with her in the last moments of her life.
The young man was not believed at the time. He was sentenced after a speedy trial. Prison itself was not the greatest penalty, however; rather, it was the inability to even attend his beloved’s burial or say goodbye to her.
He just had one dream during those ten years: visiting his fiancée’s grave would be his first action upon being free.
Then that day arrived. When he was free, he went right there. The black outlines of the gravestones, the mist, and the icy air all merged together. He placed a new flower bouquet on the monument, knelt down in front of it, and rubbed his palm over the chilly surface.
His eyes, however, froze abruptly. He was stunned and immobilized when he noticed something horrible etched on the stone.
The text on the slab said: 1990–2015.
His heart tightened. He recalled exactly—her death had been officially reported in March 2014. Both the court filings and the investigation files had that information.
Therefore, either the stonemason made a grave error or there was a horrible secret hidden behind it.
He visited the parents of his fiancée.
Without even meeting his eyes, the mother curtly said, “Just a mistake by the mason.”
However, the man was aware that this was no error. The sense that the truth was being concealed was too powerful for him.
He started his own research and acquired old archival documents from friends. Then his entire world fell apart.
Only in 2015, a full year after his sentencing, was his fiancée discovered. She had been officially reported missing all along.
Furthermore, according to the expert reports, the body was found reasonably fresh. This implied that she had passed away at least a year later, rather than in 2014.
The man was not guilty. Since he had been incarcerated the entire time, he was physically incapable of committing the crime.
However, why hadn’t anyone informed him? Why was the case dismissed as though nothing had occurred and his ten years of service had been in vain?
The answer was straightforward: it was easier for the authorities to hide everything than to acknowledge that the genuine perpetrator had gotten away with it while an innocent guy had been imprisoned for ten years.
The man’s fists clinched. He vowed then and there that he would find the truth. He would track down the person who had actually taken his happiness, his future, and the woman he loved.
