I didn’t know the truth until my dog did. 
Every time my spouse attempted to touch me, my dog would snarl and lie on my stomach.
I assumed she was simply envious. until the day I learned a horrifying reality 
.
Long before he entered my life, Loki was already with me.
She had always been by my side, understanding everything without saying a word, and had shared my pleasures, tears, and times of solitude.
She gently accepted him when I fell in love.
She just lay at my feet on the day of our wedding, almost saying, “All right, now there are three of us.”
Then, through a miracle, I discovered that I was expecting.
And Loki changed after that.
She never left my side, but she stopped playing.
She would cuddle up to me each night, lay her head on my stomach, and listen.
She seemed to sense the life developing within me.
She seemed to be laughing with me because when the baby moved, she twitched her tail, perked up her ears, and whined a little.
However, Loki would stand between us, snarling and baring her teeth whenever my husband attempted to touch my stomach.
She even bit his arm once.
I felt afraid.
He yelled that she was insane and that he was going to get rid of her.
I also stood up for her.
I assumed she was simply being protective because she thought we were stealing him from her.
However, I was mistaken.
She was aware of Loki as well.
Things worsened after the baby was born.
My spouse became increasingly aloof, annoyed at the child’s little cries.
I occasionally noticed something frigid and dark in his gaze, but I couldn’t quite place it.
Then, one day, the truth was revealed. By chance.
I took his phone to set the alarm one morning while he was showering.
I started a conversation without intending to.
He wrote to his mother, “I can’t stand this noise anymore.”
She now only cares about this baby. Everything has been ruined by this baby.
I sometimes ponder how much simpler life would be without him.
I gasped. My heart stopped beating.
His detachment, his wrath, and his apathy all made sense at that moment.
And I understood that Loki had been attempting to warn me from the start.
His gloom was palpable to her.
She was aware that he might harm us.
She didn’t feel envious.
She was keeping us safe.
Me and my kid.
My son is growing up today, and Loki is always by his side.
She sleeps next to his tiny bed, listens to his joy, and uses his little fingers to gently receive the pleasures he presents.
And whenever I watch them, I can’t help but think that perhaps my son wouldn’t even be here if Loki hadn’t been around.
