I made the decision to discipline my mother-in-law after she gave her granddaughter a pricey bike and then took it back a few days later.
Our five-year-old daughter recently received a brand-new pink bicycle from my mother-in-law. shiny, with a heart-shaped basket and white tires. It wasn’t inexpensive, and my spouse and I had previously decided that the gift would only be offered as a unique surprise on her birthday. My mother-in-law, however, had other ideas.
She smiled brightly and continued, “I just couldn’t resist.” — The best is what my granddaughter deserves!
All day long, our daughter rode around the yard, squealing with delight. We thanked my mother-in-law, of course. She adamantly rejected our offer to partially repay the cost:
I would stop at nothing to help her. Even my last savings were wasted. Don’t stress over it.
However, I quickly discovered that we had all paid a lot more than we had anticipated.
It appeared harmless at first. She simply began to come more frequently. Much more. Nearly every day.
She smiled tightly as she continued, “Look how happy she is.” — I’m glad I intervened because you would still be putting off the bike.
Then she began to make small, “casual” comments:
— You know, I used my last dollar for that present. Well, as long as my granddaughter is content, that’s all that matters.
We initially believed she was merely interested in becoming engaged. Then, however, a change occurred. She began to gripe:
— Avoid parking the bike in such manner! It will be scraped!
— You drove right through the puddle again? What happens if it is damaged?
Our daughter lowered her head to listen. Her enthusiasm for riding had diminished. The bike felt almost illegal. I made an effort to speak with my mother-in-law:
Please don’t put the child under any pressure, Mom. It is merely a toy.
She was offended. remained quiet. And something unexpected occurred the following morning.
I heard my daughter crying when I woke up. She held the empty chain from the lock while standing in her pajamas by the garage. The bicycle was gone. All my mother-in-law had done was retract it.
“I took the bike,” she wrote in a subsequent message. I will teach your youngster how to take care of things if you are unable to.
Our daughter sobbed till she started to hiccup. We were unable to soothe her. I realized then that I needed to avenge her. And I did something that I don’t regret at all.I hope you will support me when I share the entire narrative in the first remark.
The following night, I made a call.
— We’re coming over, Mom. I hope you’re at home.
She was. She was sure that everything had blown over when she came out to meet us. However, I wasn’t by myself.
I was followed by two burly males. I gestured toward the leather couch my husband and I had given her for her birthday six months prior as we entered her living room.
One of them said, “This one?”
Yes, I said coolly. – Accept it.
My mother-in-law let out a gasp.
— Are you crazy? My couch is that one!
I gave her a direct glance:
The couch is too costly to be mistreated. Look, there’s a scratch. You obviously don’t know how to take care of it. We are worried about its state.
Pale as the wall behind her, she stood in the center of the room.
