The Woman Who Carried 10 Kilograms of Pain

Emily endured a quiet jail for five years due to a bulge in her left arm. What began as a tiny bump grew into a huge lymphosarcoma, a rare and aggressive tumor that weighed 10 kg and measured 39 centimeters in diameter. At delivery, it weighed more than her daughter. It warped not just her physical appearance but also her identity.

She carried the burden every day. She was unable to wear sleeves. She stayed away from mirrors. People gazed. One day, her young daughter said, “Mommy, why is your arm so big?” Emily grinned, but she was broken on the inside.

She was previously warned by doctors that surgery was too dangerous. So she waited. She said a prayer. Finally, she was given another chance by a group of surgeons. The tumor has disappeared.

She can move freely for the first time in years. She felt entire again after raising her arm and touching her daughter’s cheek. They both shed tears of relief rather than agony.
