“My child was attacked by your dog!” — A woman let out a shrill cry, and when viewing the video tape, we witnessed a horrifying scene .
A unknown woman rushed into the yard with a furious expression on her face while carrying a sobbing six-year-old girl who was pressing her hand to her tummy, where a visible scratch was apparent.
I stood motionless. My dog Rocky was contentedly wagging his tail while he sat quietly in the yard. He was peaceful, intelligent, and had never harmed anyone; we had known him for nearly five years. Such charges therefore sounded utterly implausible.
The woman yelled as though our home were home to a ferocious animal. She had previously phoned the police and insisted that the “mad dog” be put down right away.
Despite my shaking, I made an effort to remain composed and answered:
— That’s not something my dog can accomplish. He is amiable and adores kids. He might have been provoked by your daughter. Everything is captured on the yard camera, so if you’d like, we can watch the video together.
We entered the house when the cops gave their approval. The entire yard and the incident scene were captured by the camera, which was positioned directly above the door.
We were appalled by what we witnessed when we first started watching the video.
As soon as we began watching the video, it became evident that the woman’s description was completely inaccurate. While playing in the yard, the young girl abruptly ran out onto the street, just beneath the wheels of a moving vehicle.
Rocky ran after her at that point, snatched her by the clothing, and actually hauled her out from beneath the car.
The woman felt the dog was attacking as soon as she saw it holding the toddler by the clothing. The girl resisted and shouted in terror, not realizing that she was being saved.
The mother of the youngster gasped when she saw this on the video. She came to the realization that her daughter’s survival was solely due to our Rocky.
Feeling relieved and appreciative, she came up to us, expressed her deep gratitude for our dog, and expressed regret for the hasty charges. Her perception of Rocky entirely shifted; he was now seen as a real hero rather than a “savage.”
