Little in stature but with a voice that would soon shock the world, an 11-year-old took the stage at The Voice Kids. Time appeared to stop as Elvis Presley’s soft opening notes of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” filled the air. It was a moment rather than just a song.
The judges’ expressions ranged from curiosity to disbelief as they leaned forward. As though the King had come back, the audience held its breath, anticipating each note. By the end of her performance, nobody in the house was dry-eyed. The judges couldn’t find anything wrong with her performance, so they were in a state of shock. The audience erupted in thunderous, uncontrollable cheers as the silence was broken, giving the performer a legendary standing ovation.
If the rise in talent search television shows has taught us anything, it is that there are many talented kids in the globe. I’m confident that this young German girl will blow your mind.
Throughout the season, 11-year-old Georgia Balke from Bremerhaven, Germany, has been a favorite among the supporters. She opened the year with “House of the Rising Sun,” a classic from the 1960s. Oddly, Georgia was reinstated in the competition after being disqualified by the judges earlier this year due to audience voting. Talk about a resurgence.
Georgia did a fantastic job using the Elvis Presley classic “Can’t Help Falling in Love” as her ending. She then gave a round of applause with her “coaches,” Smudo from the Fantastischen Vier and Michi Beck (left).
Later that week, rather than that evening, the true award was revealed. Due to a Covid quarantine, Georgia was unable to attend.
