A heartwarming ambulance song during a patient’s final voyage home moves millions globally.

People all across the world have been affected by a moving “ambulance serenade” for a cancer patient on her last trip home. This deed of generosity shows how committed caregivers like Yvon Kanters from the Netherlands are. During the 2020 pandemic, Yvon, a licensed social worker, worked in a nursing home to help those in need. Knowing that the 26-year-old had a wonderful voice, a staff member asked her to sing for people with Parkinson’s and dementia who loved opera but felt lonely.

As she sang, the man gestured at her and then at his tears, as if to indicate, “You’re singing for me,” and “You’re bringing me to tears,” according to Yvon, who spoke to Newsweek. She informed me that music is a worldwide language and that she had witnessed a new form of connection. “Anyone can talk to us.” After Yvon’s singing video for an old man went viral, she had a ton of requests from hospitals and nursing homes to perform for patients receiving dialysis and cancer treatment.

This ultimately led to a very moving “ambulance serenade” that four million people saw, during which Yvon performed a beloved song for a woman and her husband as they made their last trip home after trying every medical treatment available. “She picked this song for her last trip home,” Yvon stated in a heartfelt TikTok video broadcast on February 22. Yvon sang a powerful rendition of Jennifer Rush’s “The Power of Love,” which Celine Dion previously sung, while the woman lay in a non-emergency ambulance bed. She later told Newsweek that the woman was with her husband and full of hope when she first walked into the room.

“I’m a singer, and I’m coming along for the day; is there anything you want to hear?” we said to her as we led her to the ambulance. It’s obvious that she and her husband are in love. She said that “The Power of Love” was the song she and her spouse were singing. When she sang, the woman was clearly moved to tears, according to Yvon, but she never gave an explanation.

As a special nod to the couple’s enduring love of ABBA, Yvon later performed “Dancing Queen” in the woman’s house. TikTok users were deeply affected by the video, which sparked a flood of emotional reactions. One employee underlined the value of music in patient care by saying that they frequently inquire about the tunes that ambulance patients prefer to hear.

After the poignant performance, a 59-year-old man described himself as “sobbing,” and another stated they couldn’t stop crying. Many others felt the same way, and one commentator suggested that there should be a warning in the film. Yvon told Newsweek that her family is very interested in her and that music has always played a significant role in her life. Her father took her and her sisters to rehearsals and performances while they played instruments.
