For USMC Sgt. Joshua Newville and Senior Airman Emily Leehan, their wedding day turned into a moment that everyone in attendance will never forget. Weddings are a celebration of love and fresh starts.
The visitors were not prepared for one of the most heartwarming moments they would ever see, even if they had expected a lovely wedding and a festive celebration. Emily shocked everyone at the ceremony by reading individual vows to both her husband and her 4-year-old stepson, Gage.
The young youngster already loved his soon-to-be stepmother and was obviously happy to see his father get married. But everyone was moved by Emily’s sincere words to Gage.

She started by saying, “I want you to be safe, to try your hardest, and to always be a good person,” while maintaining eye contact with the wide-eyed child. She spoke with genuineness, and Gage quickly felt overwhelmed by the emotional impact of what she had to say.
He wrapped his little arms around Emily and clung to her, tears streaming down his cheeks. As the visitors were moved by the sweet conversation, the room was filled with sniffles and sincere “awws.”
Emily spoke to him, “Don’t cry, baby,” but her voice was shaking with emotion. “You are so handsome, kind, and intelligent,” she added. You are the gift of life, even though I may not have given it to you.
When the two embraced, there was not a dry eye in the room, establishing a lifelong relationship.
Despite their overwhelming love, the newlyweds were forced to return to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on duty, thus they were unable to have a honeymoon. But the lovely recollection of their vows—particularly those they exchanged with Gage—will never fade.
