A girl with a pink backpack was seen by the sergeant standing in the middle of the street in the rain, but she dropped the bag and fled when she saw the policeman
As he had done for years, the police sergeant was on patrol in the heart of the city. Because of the unrelenting rain, the streets were less crowded than normal that evening. The few pedestrians rushing home under their umbrellas had their silhouettes briefly illuminated by the patrol car’s headlights.
He drove cautiously, taking in his surroundings. He learned from his experience that unexpected things frequently happen on rainy evenings.
He saw something odd at an intersection: a young girl standing immobile in the pouring rain, like a neglected toy, in the center of the road. A gray raincoat draped over her slender shoulders, and a tiny pink rucksack dangled from her back.
The sergeant became suspicious right away, slowed down, and stopped.
He yelled, “Little girl!” before opening the door and venturing forth into the rain.
His voice reverberated over the quiet street. The girl recoiled, spun around, glanced at the officer, and then abruptly started to run.
“Stop!” the sergeant yelled, racing after her.
He watched as she tore the rucksack from her shoulders and threw it down the damp tarmac before disappearing down a dark alley.
The sergeant stooped to pick up the rucksack as he ran up. The fabric seemed heavy, but it was soaked through. There was something within.
When he opened it, he was startled by what he saw 
Several carefully wrapped packages in transparent plastic bags were found inside. He knew right away that it was amphetamine, which had been distributed in tiny “doses.”
However, it wasn’t all. A USB drive, many SIM cards, and a stack of fictitious passports featuring pictures of various kids were found in a different bag.
A shiver went through his body. Forged child documentation mixed with drug trafficking? Compared to a normal street-level situation, this was much more serious.
He glanced around hastily, but the girl had vanished.
The sergeant grasped the rucksack firmly, realizing that he had unintentionally discovered something much more sinister and perilous than a kid lost in the storm
